Why Your Website Is Killing Your Conversion Rate
We audited 200 DTC websites last year. The same 5 mistakes were costing brands millions. Find out if yours is on the list.
Last year we audited over 200 DTC brand websites. The same five mistakes kept showing up — and they were costing these brands millions in lost revenue.
Here they are.
Mistake 1: The Hero Doesn't Answer "Why This?"
Most brand heroes answer "What is this?" They show the product. They describe the category. But they don't answer the only question that matters to a first-time visitor: why should I care about this vs everything else competing for my attention and money? Fix: rewrite your hero headline around your most compelling differentiator, not your category.
Mistake 2: Social Proof Is Buried
Testimonials belong above the fold. Not at the bottom of the page. Not on a separate review page. Above the fold, next to your hero. People need trust signals before they'll consider your offer.
Mistake 3: Too Many CTAs
"Shop Now" and "Learn More" and "Take the Quiz" and "See Our Story" all on the same screen. Every additional CTA is a decision point — and decisions create friction. Pick one primary action per section.
Mistake 4: Mobile Is an Afterthought
Over 70% of your traffic is on mobile. If your hero image doesn't crop correctly on an iPhone, if your buttons are too small to tap, if your font is unreadable at 14px — you're losing the majority of your visitors before they even engage.
Mistake 5: Speed
Every second of page load time costs you. The brands with sub-2s load times consistently outperform the ones with 4-5s load times, even when the slower site "looks better." Performance is UX.
